SOB5 was probably the shortest sortie in my scenario-history. After a 1 hour briefing with some jokes and much serious business
we took off KIETA heading west for a 2 sector flight to the US-Invasion-Fleet at TOROKINA.
They expected us coming, they saw us coming and they were there, when we arrived! A massacre began.
Without Fighter-Cover we arrived the Invasion-Fleet, quickly sank 3 Troop-Transports and went into a melee of F4U´s and F6F.
KUER played a little guest role in this onslaught. He died as a gunner in my GL´s plane. We pinged many blue planes and gave them
hell, but no avail. No avail isn´t right. While we were busy with the US-Fighters 40 Kates advanced to Port Moresby and
did considerable damage to facilties. All in all a kind of "Phyrrus"-victory for the IJN. TBF destroyed several airfields on Bougainville
and escaped unharmed.
