On Oct 4th 1999 the Invasion of the italian Mainland began.
Me and Boni joined the Aero Macchi 202 Fighter Squad. Due much work
in RL i only attended at 2 Frames.
The Macchi 202 was simulated by Bf109E3, although the engine and armament
compared better to the "Franz".
Anyway, again we had a nice crew and a real good GL.
The pics display our planes in german markings. This is because of
the nonexistence of appropriate skins for the E-3. All italian skins only
fitted on the F or G-Type. Pity.
Our Crew: Macchi 202/205 (109E/G) GL:
BigHog FL: Cr@sh
Anco CAV
Xango boni5
Murk Guy
Whup Yeag fofo
Frame2:
I had to skip Frame1, because of the unholy time
it ran. Maybe i am getting too old :-))
In Frame2 our objectives were to protect our
buffs attacking an airfield and after releasing them home to perform a
fighter-sweep. A fighter-sweep against SpitV, P-38 and P-51? Yep, true!
And we did it.
When we reached the enemy coastline (ok, we were
a little far out <gg>) BgHog recognized some dots far below us and sent
Whup and Cr@sh to identify them. They never returned!
No, we all decided to dive on the enemy Hurries
and SpitV´s. What now happened, can only be described as an unbelievable
slaughter on our totally surprised adversaries.
I guess we hitted them right in that moment they assembled for an attack.
The Hurries were all heavy and damned slow. The Spit-Escort was splitted
and some were to far to assist right in time.
Many Hurries were hit or shot down short after
our attack. The remainders struggled hard but spun out and fell down right
in front of my plane. Some Spits achieved kills on our 109´s (at
last 2 didnt return). But we all sprayed our (small!) ammo-load into them
and most of them fled or died.
I killed the Spit that was badly hurt by BgHog,
but still dogfighting with him at low alt. BgHog was out of Ammo at this
time and
i think i heard a little relief in his words
when we rtb´d home :-))
The 2nd mission was a real scramble. Intercept
low- and mid-alt bombers!
At first i met a low-flying Mosquito. She outraced
me and the guys there in must have laughed their a§$es off, when they
saw me retreating. But not for long. The "wooden-wonder" developed to a
nice bonfire, when they got hit by the airfield-ack.
The Macchies were still climbing, when B-25 were
reported in our sector at 10k. Damn, too high to intercept them in time.
I made a slow, climbing stern-attack (risky i
know!!) on a B-25 that fell apart of the formation. I have no idea, what
made this guy think he can outrun me in a dive. Doesnt matter, he did it!
My luck! And even better, he was ungunned. In a hairraising 300mph shallow
dive i pumped my (small! did i mention this?) ammo-load into this bomber.
Eventually he died.
On my 3rd mission on this evening, i was alone
and the scenario was close to the end.
Only a few enemy markers were spread over the
map. I climbed to 10k and headed to the nearest one.
I met a P-38 BnZ´ing on a fellow-pilot.
I BnZ´nd on the P-38, on the 1st approach i had hits and the 38 started
smoking.
2 other Axis-Planes arrived and the 38 was doomed.
I got the kill at last (sorry Lugs <gg>).
Some Pics:
The Hurries were quite excited :-)) Most of them stalled and fell out
of the sky. The Spits fled or died !!
15:00 CAV nailed ppig@ over enemy territory, assisted by Anco.
15:01 Anco nailed +Rino over enemy territory, assisted by boni5, CR@SH.
15:06 Anco nailed DemoD over enemy territory, assisted by BgHog.
After the Mossie-Debacle, someone had to believe
in. Just in time a B-25 took this part.
15:46 Anco nailed Tcat' over friendly territory.
No film of the 3rd mission. But a P-38 died.
16:08 Anco nailed Immel over enemy territory,
assisted by <Lugs.
Frame 4:
To make it short. Macchi fell victim to superior high-alt P-38´s
and SpitV´s forces. All except Cr@sh didnt survive the 1st half hour.
I dragged 4 38´s with me down and finally spinned below 100ft. The
wreck of my Macchi lies there in the Emiglia Romagna. RIP!
It was the last frame for me. And i hope to see some of the guys again
i met here.
